IBM launches anti-ransomware Storage Defender

Share
IBM has added a new storage offering called Storage Defender, which the company says helps ensure data resilience for enterprises when they are confronted with threats such as ransomware, SDxCentral reports. Previously announced as a multi-tier preview offering in March, Storage Defender employs the data protection capabilities of Cohesity, an IBM partner, and the company's own IBM Storage Protect backup technology. Current data recovery protocols in IT call for systems of snapshots of enterprise data that are backed up at set intervals. However, this system is now hampered by an increased deployment of multiple cloud environments and on-premises workloads, complicating data recovery efforts. Additionally, threat actors are now capable of sophisticated attacks that can infect both the working data and the snapshots, saidSam Werner, vice president of IBM Storage Product Management. IBM Storage Defender addresses this by giving users a complete view of their datas location and their overall security posture in addition to leveraging security information and event management, [security orchestration automation response, and extended detection and response capabilities to be able to detect sophisticated threats, Werner said.
