Offensive, defensive cybersecurity to be consolidated by US Army

DefenseScoop reports that both offensive and defensive cybersecurity portfolios of the U.S. Army will be consolidated under the Program Executive Office Intelligence, Electronic Warfare and Sensors beginning October as part of the Army's effort to bolster operational and budgeting efficiencies. Such integration would enable better overall cyber operations amid Congress' calls for tighter Joint Cyber Warfighting Architecture incorporation at the U.S. Cyber Command, said IEW&S Program Executive Officer Mark Kitz during the Army's Technical Exchange Meeting X. "Because of this enterprise focus on integrating across the cyber architecture, the Army naturally is going to focus on that same integration. There's synergy of our optimization of the organization here. Its really important for us as a cyber enterprise to make sure that Cyber Command and ARCYBER that were able to integrate across the cyber warfighting functions, whether that's defensive, offensive, rapid response, cybersecurity," noted Kitz, who added that while the defensive cyber office and offensive cyber and space office will be initially independent under PEO IEW&S, long-term synergy between the two will be considered during the next two years.
