New York hospitals seek recovery of data stolen in cyberattack
New York-based non-profit health providers Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center and Carthage Area Hospital have sought legal action to recover data stolen from a ransomware attack months ago from Massachusetts-based cloud storage provider Wasabi Technologies, WWNY-TV reports.
Wasabi Technologies was unaware that data stolen from both health providers have been stored on its server, according to Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center and Carthage Area Hospital CEO Rich Duvall, who added that stolen data from other organizations were also within Wasabi's systems. Such a court order was also noted by Duvall to help facilitate data recovery for other impacted organizations and also ensure that there are no longer copies of the exposed information.
"So the best option explored by our legal team and working with the FBI is actually going after that company to get our secluded data so that we can be sure what information was leaked," said Duvall, who added that systems restoration efforts at both hospitals are still ongoing.
