Sometimes you wonder when Congress will catch up with the public.

What exactly has to happen before federal legislators pass a national data breach disclosure act, which most experts believe will be similar to California’s SB 1386?

Well, it appears the push that the feds need could come from the federal government itself.

Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, who must’ve been thrilled to discuss anything besides himself, and FTC Chairwoman Deborah Platt-Majoras announced the recommendations of the President’s Identity Theft Task Force on Monday. That group is also behind a national data breach notification act.

Here’s hoping their recommendations get more favorable treatment than those of the Iraq Study Group.
