Implications of midterm polls to federal IT examined

Share
FedScoop reports that the imminent dominance of Republicans in the House of Representatives following this year's midterm polls is set to usher more battles with the Biden administration regarding federal IT during the next two years. Republican lawmakers are expected to increase investigations on federal agency leaders involved in IT project management, according to federal tech policy experts. The Internal Revenue Service and other agencies that have been given significantly higher spending, such as the Department of Homeland Security, Federal Communications Commission, and Federal Trade Commission, are also expected to face more in-depth scrutiny. Congress is also poised to deemphasize FISMA and FITARA reform under Republican leadership, as Rep. Gerry Connolly, D-Va., is removed as leader of the House Oversight Subcommittee on Government Operations. Combating misinformation and disinformation is also expected to take a backseat as Republicans tout the DHS's anti-disinformation efforts as a threat to rights under the First Amendment.
